No one is new to exams or test, at some point in our lives
we do write exams; be it a college exam, national exam, employment test viz. we
have all written, and the duration of the exam or test varies randomly.
The success of passing exams is clearly dependent on the
individual’s preparation. From my honest perspective it’s appears easier to
prepare and pass exams that comes in series than a single day exam. take for
example most student pass their West African Senior Student Examination which spans for over a month compared
to the same number of students that pass the University Matriculation Exam that is only for a
day.
This could be due to the fact that the single day exam seems
to require little effort to scale through, since it’s just a day exam one
should not dedicate the whole of his time just to pass the exam, a big
misconception many students have in mind, whereas in the case of the series of
exams, most student are aware the need to prepare really well if they desire to
pass well. I too had the misconception of studying hard for the longer exams
schedules than the single day exam, after years doing the wrong thing I
eventually came to the understanding, that one needs to equally study hard for
the single day exam same as the series days’ exam
Here are some useful tips have compiled to help you prepare
better for the single day exam’s, and could also be helpful for the long
stretch exams.
PLAN: like the popular saying goes if you fail
to plan, you've planned to fail. planning is the organizing of your thoughts
and resources to maximize your efforts to yield a much better results.
Following the listed steps below would make your study a lot more efficient.
·
Create a calendar planner for your studies.
·
Create a daily do list of how you want to tackle
the exam questions.
·
Allocate specific time for the study of each
different subjects.
·
Create a desired format/system that would make
you answer questions accurately at a faster rate.
2.
PREPARE: this phase entails the gathering of
useful resources needed for the exam. Below are the listed ways that would helpful
to consider when next you preparing for a single day exam
·
Gather all study materials you would need.
·
Clear your calendar to allow you accommodate
study time.
·
Remove all possible distractions i.e. video
games, social media, parties and any other activity that won’t allow you to
focus better on the exam.
3.
READ: this should be self-explanatory, but as
basic it is, so as this is the basic for exam success. You can’t give out what
you don’t have, if you fail to read your note, how would you put the correct
answer when asked for it. Listed below are few tips to help you read better
·
Don’t spend all your time reading what you know.
·
After you’ve read a topic, go through practice
questions to help you understand what you’ve read.
·
When it seems what you are reading is no longer
entering your head, take a break, don’t force it.
4.
PLAY: make time for fun, all work and no play
makes jack a dull boy. Remember your brain functions better when you are under
less stress, so take a break from all the stress and spend some few times doing
fun activities, but, make sure you don’t over play and forget why you are even
playing.
5.
REVISE: Perhaps the most delicate part of the
whole phase is the revise part, because this where your brain actually confirms
what you know and
what you don’t know. I personally spend
more time revising than reading. Make
sure you revise up to three times before the actual exam. It helps you to be
confident and also helps you brain, remember faster. Never skip this phase,
below are some useful hint you should consider when next you want to revise.
·
Revise with questions.
·
Take few minutes break after each revision
period.
·
Revise with a timer, to help you know what your
average speed is.
·
It’s not harmful to revise over and over again.
The whole process listed above could be referred to the term
STUDY, so before you attempt to pass any exam be it a single day or multiple
day exams you should have completed the whole phase. Success can’t be far from
you, ALL THE BEST!!!
